Some Florentine Favorites

Not much to blog today because it's raining and I didn't want to bother taking the camera out. I will however tell you, that if you are ever in Florence, I have a few recommendations for you. I have found in my experience here that it's best to strike up a conversation with locals while sitting and eating your dinner. They can tell you where the tourist never go, and those places are the best.  Last night after my roommate and I talked with some nice gentlemen at a lounge during the soccer game, they took us around to some of the places they like to hang out.  My favorite, and you have to go here if you visit, was Eby's Latin Bar near the Duomo.  Via dell'Oriuolo 5/r Santa Croce to be exact.  While I didn't eat the food there, it was packed and there was a line out the door at 1 a.m.  Exhausted I wasn't really game for that, but I am so glad I sucked it up and waited.  When we got to the front of the line, the nice locals we were with bought us one of their famous shots.  The guy mixing them seriously could have been Einstein's brother.  You don't even really order specific things, you just say you want one and he mixes you up something magical and give you instructions on how to fully taste his creation.  The one I got smelled like Christmas and tasted like a heavenly mix of cinnamon  nutmeg, irish cream, and something strange I couldn't figure out.  It was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted.

Another pointer.  The best Gelato I have had here was from Grom, also near the Duomo.  Via delle Oche, 24-red  50122 Florence, Italy.  Fresh, delicious and all organic!!  Sing me up!  Happy Sunday!
